Hi.

I'm Moya, welcome to my blog! Designology is where I share all the things that inspire me and ignite my love of design.

Nordic Makers Dublin

Nordic Makers Dublin

A taste of Nordic charm has landed in Dublin, brining a much welcomed array of furniture and homeware from the design savvy regions like Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland to our little emerald isle. Nordic Makers opened their doors on Dun Laoghaire's George's Street a little under two weeks ago and already there is a sense of hype around this new design hotspot.

Showcasing a range of furniture, textiles, glasswork, lighting, ceramics, prints and more, the Danish design duo behind the project, Dr Louis Weyhe Funder and Klaus Kristian Sorensen are committed to retailing the very best of furniture and design from the Nordic countries.

The interior design world has seen a wave of popularity for the simplistic, clean style of Nordic craftsmanship in recent years. In Ireland especially, more and more people are looking to designers from these regions for inspiration and unique pieces for their home, so the timing could not be better for a space like Nordic Makers to land in Ireland.

The space itself is a blank white canvas gallery with pops of colour and clever design dotted throughout. The gallery layout makes for a bright, airy and insightful browsing that offers a design tour alongside the shopping experience. Wandering through the shop customers can read about each of the featured makers and their designs on plaques adjacent to their ranges. There is something particularly nice in learning about each piece, it's founder and how it came to be.

Likewise, there is something lovely in knowing the stories behind the objects we choose for our own homes. Oftentimes we may think pieces come from giant corporations and huge warehouses, where they are mass produced for an endless list of retailers, when in fact they are one-of-a-kind pieces made and designed in a small shed by one talented individual. Such are the people who feature in this special retailer, most of whom are young, emerging talents from the Nordic design scene. Naturally, the pieces are largely fresh, contemporary and innovative with an endearing wackiness at times.

Nordic Makers is located on Lower St George's St in Dun Laoghaire. For more information on the shop visit www.nordicmakers.com
